Happy Independence Day (two days early)

Well, it is that time of year again.  It's time for the Fourth of July celebrations to begin! It was and still is my favorite time of summer.  All the fireworks and Fourth of July celebrations, the bar-b-ques with family and friends and the long lazy days hanging out at the beach.  Not only is it a time of fond memories of summers long past but it is also a great time to stop and reflect about why we celebrate the Fourth of July to begin with.  This is the day we celebrate our nations freedom and independence and can step up and show how much we appreciate and cherish those freedoms.  This is a great time to say to those who serve in our military "Thank You for everything you have given and continue to give".

This year for the Fourth of July I am going to be taking my kids to a local Fourth of July parade and than off to a family bar-b-que and than to the beach for some fun in the sun and than hope to be dazzled by a great fireworks display that evening.  During the day we will be sure to say our thanks to any of our military families that we may run into and I plan on reading The Declaration of Independence with my kids and explaining what that declaration really means to us.  I think it is important for my children to understand why we celebrate the Fourth of July and not let its meaning get totally lost in all the celebration of family and good food.  As you get ready to celebrate your Fourth of July what do you have planned?  Any traditions?  If so please feel free to share in the comments section.  I would love to hear what they are.

Happy Fourth of July!  I hope you all have a safe and wonderful holiday!
